Lab FAQs
We can process C41 colour film, black and white film and also ECN-2 cinema film. At the moment, we don’t process E6 slide film, but watch this space! If you’re developing cinema film, please make sure to select the cinema film processing service that we have, rather than the C41 option.
We offer high quality inkjet prints from our trusty Fujifilm DL650. You can add 4x6” prints to your develop and scan order on the order page.
If you’re looking for larger 8x10” or 12x16” prints, you can go to this page where you can upload the image you’d like printed, along with any preferences.
We process 35mm and medium format (120) film. Unfortunately at this time we do not process 110 or APS film.
Processing FAQs
Once you have made your order, take a note of your order confirmation number. Package your film up into a padded envelope making sure that it’s firmly sealed. It’s important that you include a note of your name, email and order number inside your parcel, so that we can match it up on our system.
At the moment, we’re not quite ready to welcome customers into our physical space. Watch this space, as we’re exploring locations for drop boxes and a drop off service at the moment.
Turnaround times and mailing
Once we receive your film, we’ll send you an email notification to confirm its arrived safely. From that point, our standard turnaround time for you to receive your scans is 7 days. We also offer a rush service, where we can reduce the turnaround time to 3 days. With rush orders, make sure to mark your parcel with RUSH, so that we know to prioritise it.
At the moment, we're a drop in only. We're exploring options that will allow our early Founding Members to meet us in the space, and potentially trial some darkroom activities, so keep your ears peeled 🥰
We don't currently have a drop box, but we're aiming to get a couple installed around London soon! Watch this space...
Once you've made an order online, take a note of the order number. Package your film up in a padded envelop, and use the pre-paid postage label that comes with your order. Make sure the envelope is tightly sealed! If you've selected a rush order, please write RUSH on your order.
We’ll send you an update at each stage of your order. That means we’ll tell you we’ve received the order, when the film arrives safely at the lab, and then finally we’ll email you a link to download your images on Wetransfer.
Membership FAQs
All memberships give you access to the Negative Space digital community and invites to IRL events. As you move up the tiers, you’ll also get things like:
- Free film development & scanning
- Member discounts on lab services
- Limited-edition film
- Occasional members-only merch and releases
We try to keep it simple: the more involved you are, the more value you get back.
It’s all managed through your account:
- Log in via the Account page on our website (use the email you signed up with)
- Head to Member's Credits (you’ll find this as a widget at the bottom of the page)
- You’ll see how many credits you have available
- Click Ways to redeem, then choose Free dev & scan
- This generates a discount code: you can copy & paste it at checkout, or apply it directly to your basket
- If you’re redeeming multiple credits at once, select how many you want before generating the code
We’ve designed membership to offer genuinely good value. Shooting film is expensive - we want to make it as accessible as we can. With even fairly light use of the lab, most members find their membership pays for itself.
Yes. You’ll only be able to access your credits and discounts when you’re logged in to your account.
No - membership only covers access to the community and lab services themselves. We explored including shipping, but couldn’t make it work without pushing membership prices up. That said, you can buy prepaid shipping labels from us if you want an easy, no-stress option
No - credits need to be used within the month. Any unused credits reset at the end of the calendar month.
Free dev & scan credits reset at the end of each calendar month. Member discounts don’t reset - they’re available any time while your membership is active.
Once you’re logged in, your member discount is automatically applied to eligible products at checkout. No code needed.
- Community and Portra memberships can be paused or cancelled at any time. Just log in and go to Manage Membership.
- Founding Membership has a minimum commitment of 6 months. It isn’t designed to be paused or cancelled during that period.
But we know life happens. If something unexpected comes up or you’re having financial difficulties, just email us and we’ll figure something out together.

Founding membership is for people who want to back the project long-term. There are also upfront costs for us (like your Negative Space chore jacket), which we can only offer because of that minimum term.
No - memberships are for individual use only. That said, if you like what we’re building, we’d love you to refer friends or family. We may look at family or group memberships in the future - let us know if that’s something you’d be into.
The Negative Space community lives in its own dedicated digital space, accessible via web and app.
Longer-term, our ambition is to build a physical, self-serve darkroom and community space in London. Members will be the first to hear as that journey unfolds. For more about the community, click here.
